Teeny Beanie started out when I decided to learn crochet and make beanies for newborns in hospitals, for charity. I am now obsessed with crocheting and knitting small items; especially hats! I now mainly make kids' hats and beanies, sell them and give the profit to various charities. However, I loved the name and kept it.
Teeny Beanie hats and beanies can be ordered directly from me - just contact me from this web site. I also sell from Felt, https://felt.co.nz/shop/teenybeanie and there is a small selection at the Cornerstone at Nourish Cafe in Te Puna, Tauranga.
Teeny Beanie started out making newborn beanies for charities - and the charities wanted woollen beanies. Now I also make hats for older children, I make in acrylic and mixed yarns as well. Soft wool is expensive. I have tried merino that is cheaper and it itches my skin (I am quite sensitive!) so when it does that, I won't use the wool.
Also people who wanted to buy the hats wanted a choice - not just the more expensive wool.
YES! They are all made by me.
The majority of the yarn I use, whatever it is made from, is machine washable. Superwash wool, easycare acrylic etc. Each hat will have the washing instructions on a tag sent with the beanie, and I also list it with the hat information on the web site.
Absolutely! What I show on the web site is just a sample of what I can make. You can buy the one shown on the web site, but if the size or colour you want isn't shown, I can make one if I have the yarn. If you find a pattern you like, I may be able to make that for you.
Sizes have been obtained from the standard sizing that knitted hat makers use. These are STANDARD sizes - the child you are buying for may not be 'standard', so check first. If in doubt, you could buy a slightly bigger size and if it's too big the child can grow into it.
See my size chart below. Larger hats and beanies can be made on request.
I mainly support animal welfare charities - the SPCA, local animal rescue, NZAVS and SAFE, but I have also supported Low Vision and Waipuna Hospice and will support St John's and others in the future.
If your purchase is $100 or over, then you can let me know which charity you would like to support. Thanks!!
My hats are very easy to send overseas. I can either send to you, and you can then send to someone overseas. Or you can provide the address and I can work out a price to send a gift wrapped present with a note from you.
The colours are the best I can get for accuracy on my computer. However, be aware that your screen may show the colours differently.
There are two options - those which I make with yarn to match the hat, and faux fur ones.
The ones I make are hand made and I try and get them tied as tightly as I can, but just be careful and don't try to pull the yarn! These are left on the hat when the hat is washed.
The faux fur ones are detachable; take them off when washing. If they get a bit flat, you can fluff them up with a hairdryer. There are a few You Tubes on this!
Firstly - a BIG THANK YOU to all the wonderfully talented people who have created hat patterns - a great many of them for free. I have noted information for patterns on the LINKS page.
I am now creating many patterns myself. Great fun!!
